Heating and Air Installation Prep Tips

How to Prepare for an AC Installation

Not completely understanding the ins and outs of heating and air installation systems when choosing one is not a problem, however, it does help to be familiar with the different types of units available today. So we have listed below the most common types of systems for your home or business:

  • Traditional Split System – This is a conventional system that has an exterior unit installed. The cold air is distributed through ducts that are run throughout a structure.
  • Ductless Mini-Split System – These have individual evaporator and fan units in each room. Because each unit operates independently, you do have better control of the temperature in each room.
  • Geothermal System – This cycles fluid through loops of pipes that are placed underground to transfer heat from the air in your home to the ground.

How to Prepare for Your New System

Don’t let the installation day catch you unawares, make sure you prep your home accordingly. Your installers will be able to do their job a lot quicker and simpler when you do the following things to ensure a smooth process:

  • Preparing the Ductwork – The installers will not be able to install your new system if your ductwork is still full of dust and dirt. So make sure your ducts are thoroughly cleaned and aired, and remember to seal them.
  • Make Room for the System – Before the new system arrives, clear the area of any clutter and obstacles, so the installers have sufficient room to work in the area, and, it is wise to make sure the measurements for the new system actually fit in the space.
  • Clear a Path for the Contractor – Move any obstacles such as rugs, tables, toys, etc. from the entrance to the installation area. This will greatly reduce the chance of any property damage or accidents when the installers are doing their job.
